Recovery from illness is a journey and this choir is all about taking steps forward. Singing helps with anxiety and stress, shortness of breath and tiredness. Joining a group of friendly singers can be a pathway to ending feelings of loneliness and isolation. In the Recovery Choir our gentle approach will bring you confidence and a sense of wellbeing.
Each week we start with some breathing exercises, and these can be done standing or sitting down, whichever is easiest for you. There are plenty of moments to relax throughout the practice and you can take things at your own pace. Our leisurely sing lasts from 11am to 12pm and then most people stay for a chat over a cup of tea or coffee.
This choir loves singing and favourites have included well known hits from The Carpenters, ABBA, songs from musicals and Disney films.
In the Recovery Choir there is space for carers to accompany any member who would like support. If anyone is anxious about coming along or travelling to the venue and would like to bring a friend along for the first week, just let us know.
Unlike all our other choirs, payment for the Recovery Choir is weekly and cash on the door. Recovery Choir singers only pay for the sessions that they are able to attend.
